Updates on WACS cable breaks repair ship reaches first of broken cables.
After several days at sea, cable repair ship which is tasked with repairing both undersea cables Wacs and the South Atlantic 3/West Africa (Sat-3/Wasc) which went down on Thursday, 16 January 2020 has, reached its first break point on the WACS cable, the West Africa Cable System (Wacs).

How long will it take for the cable to be repaired?

The technicians will need at least 48 hours to repair the cables, according to Orange Marine, the ship owner.
But indications are that it could take them up to February 8 (11 days) for the cable to be operational.

The two key undersea cables that connect Southern Africa, including Namibia to the global internet have both been hit by separate failures, resulting in very slow internet speeds for most users since 16 January.

According to Telecom Namibia the company has since acquired alternative capacity on the East coast of Africa.
